Witnessing Ignorance Prevail
Watching helplessly as a loved one slowly drowns while bystanders do nothing is the most difficult thing I have ever had to endure. The loved one is The United States, drowning in ignorance as the puppets of Corporate America and The New World Order work furiously to destroy whatever vestiges of freedom and civil liberty the people of this once great country have left. Yesterday, January 29, 2008, legislature voted to extend the domestic spying laws that were due to expire, and basicly sent a message to all Americans that they just dont give a fuck about the sagging level of security and freedom we are feeling. The decades long project of dumbing-down America has obviously been quite effective because from where I stand, most of the people in this country are either in serious denial, or completely ignorant to what is really going on. But then again, what can you expect from the no opinion of their own sheep who trust the mainstream media for their news and information? Not too long ago, the network news, NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS were the watchdogs of government and corporate America. Rupert Murdoch and his cancerous FOX network didn't even exist and we could count on the networks to give us truthfull, non-biased reports that we could use to help us make the important decisions in life. There was a time when, if you were a corporate executive or a politician, and you showed up to work, only to find a 60Minutes crew and Dan Rather waiting for you, you were going to have a bad day! Nowadays, if that happens, they're most likely there to present you with an award for being mediocre, or getting through rehab. If you happen to be Brittney Spears, they're there to escort you to rehab! Then The FOX Network began it's assault on intelligent TV with COPS, The Simpsons, and the myriad of 'reality' shows that incouraged Ameica to be mediocre and become a "reality star". Aimed at a demographic of 18-32 year old, beer swilling, pot smoking couch potatos, Rupert Murdoch's poisoning of the American mind garnered huge ratings, and rather than stay the course of rational, intelligent programing(?), and suffer slightly lower ratings temporarily until the curious, responsible adults returned from their investigative forays to the new 'irreverant' network, the 'Big 3' freaked out and followed FOX into idiocracy. Soon there was no mainstream media outlet that had not fallen prey to the power of the almighty push towards the moronic, and the 'NEWS' we had once trusted to keep us informed as to the evils of corporate America and government had become nothing more than entertainment reports and tabloid TV. Of course, it doesn't help that while the mental midgets of America were being brainwashed into accepting mediocracy as the norm, the very corporations that we had once trusted media to guard us against, were collectively buying up all the newspapers and broadcast networks. It never pays to let the wolf keep an eye on the henhouse. Now that the MSM is totally corrupt, those of us who either can't be, or refuse to be brainwashed have to rely on the talk radio world in order to find any intelligent news or opinion, and even that venue is starting to get a little flaky. And there is always the internet, problem is that it takes too much effort and commitment for the majority of Americans to get off their couch potato asses and search the net for the truth. And that, my friends, leaves the rest of us, who aren't confused or dumbed-down, praying that there are enough intelligent, patriotic people involved in progressive media and internet news to fend off this attack on our very freedom from the rogue administration and corporate America. Fascism is rapidly taking control of this country, and it terrifies me to watch it happening. I do my damdest to convince people to open their eyes and ears to what is really happening, but most look at me like I'm an alien, or a traitor. So I write my little blogs, listen to the intellects on progressive radio, and watch, helplessly, tearfully, horrified, as ignorance prevails.
